Córdoba is located near the geographical centre of Argentina, in the foothills of the Sierra Chicas mountains on the Suquía River, about 700 KM northwest from Buenos Aires. The city has a population of over 1.3 million inhabitants making it Argentina's second largest city. It is the third industrial center of Argentina, but retains many of its historical buildings dating from the colonial era.
El Centro (Spanish for "downtown") is the most important commercial area, with clothes, food, hardware, fishing equipment, shoes, computer shops, etc., as well as the most important banks like Bank of Córdoba and other private banking institutions
Known as La Docta due to the presence of many students, the active intellectual university life continues to influence and shape the history and the culture of the city and Argentina alike.
Due to the geographical location of the city, Córdoba makes an excellent base for those who enjoy adventures in the outdoors. There is great hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, and kayaking in the beautiful rivers only 30 minutes away near or in the mountain range of the Sierra Chicas. If outdoor activities do not interest you, there are several other options as well. You can visit the colonial district, the second oldest university of Latin America known as the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (1610), plenty of modern art and history museums as well as traditional tango bars, and tea rooms.
You can also have fun getting lost in the Guemes neighborhood where there are plenty of antique shops, art showrooms, and a huge local craft market.
Additionally, if you enjoy the night scene you will love dancing until dawn in the many pubs and discos scattered throughout the city.
Similar to Buenos Aires, Córdoba is located in the heart of the country that enjoys mild weather with an average temperature of 18º C (64º F). Seasons are well differentiated: July is the coldest month while January records the highest temperatures
