Studera Spanska in Mendoza

Mendoza is a small city in the west of Argentina, and the capital of Mendoza province. With about 110,000 inhabitants, Mendoza is on a major road between Argentina and Chile. It is a frequent stopover for climbers heading up Aconcagua (the highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere) or for other out door activities such as mountaineering, hiking, rafting, horseback riding, etc. In the winter, skiers come to the city for its easy access to the Andes .

Founded in the 16th century, Mendoza was later reconstructed in a European style, after a devastating earthquake hit in 1861. The picturesque city features wide avenues traversed by small riverbeds and irrigation canals. Five main legendary squares together with lots of bars and coffee houses are situated alongside the wide pavements, shadowed by a variety of trees. Mendoza Province hosts one of the largest ski resorts in South America as well as many rivers, valleys, mountains, and world renowned vineyards.

Students’ favorite activities are visiting the wineries, visiting the national parks, or participating in water sports, such as windsurfing, fishing, water-skiing, or sailing, which can all be enjoyed a few kilometers away from the city. For those hungry for more adventure, rapids descending from the Andes are the perfect spot for white water rafting and kayaking. Heading northeast, you will find several international ski resorts and places for other adventure sports. There are many local festivals, such as the National Wine and Harvest Festival in March.
